Step 1: Lay Out the Solar System Mat
Place the big card showing the sun and the orbit lines (solar system). This is your child’s space map!
Step 2: Show the Planets
Spread out the planet pieces—Mercury to Neptune (and Pluto if included!).
Talk about each one:
“This is Mars, it’s red!” or “Jupiter is the biggest planet!”
Step 3: Match Planets in Order
Guide your child to place the planets on the mat in the correct order from the sun:
Mercury → Venus → Earth → Mars → Jupiter → Saturn → Uranus → Neptune
Step 4: Explore and Play
Let your child move the planets around and talk about them. You can ask:
“Which planet do we live on?”
“Can you find the planet with rings?”
“Which is the smallest one?”
